Asphalt Shingles

Corner of a home featuring asphalt shingles and the garden bed below
Asphalt shingles have been the most popular roofing material for homeowners for a very long time. Their durability, affordability, availability, and extensive range of customization options. Asphalt shingles can be designed to suit you and your home. Asphalt shingles come in many different colors, shapes, and finishes, ensuring that there will always be an option that suits your home. We’ll be able to show you many different options for your asphalt shingles during a consultation to discuss your roof. Like every building material, asphalt shingles do have their downsides though. Asphalt shingles only last about 15-30 years, so they don’t last as long as some other roofing options. They are also fairly susceptible to wind and temperature damage.
Asphalt shingles are petroleum based, so they’re not as good for the environment as some other options. Despite the downsides, asphalt shingles are still an excellent choice and remain extremely popular both in Utah and elsewhere. The two types of asphalt shingles that are currently available are:

  • Fiberglass: This type of shingle is made up of a fiberglass base covered with a layer of asphalt. Fiberglass shingles often have ceramic pieces mixed in to prevent color damage from the sun.
  • Organic: Organic shingles are similar to fiberglass shingles, they just use a recycled base instead of fiberglass. Usually, the base will be made of recycled paper , and then asphalt will be layered over it, like the fiberglass shingles. They are usually a bit more expensive, but they are still an affordable and environmentally friendly option.
